Stereotypes about older adults being senile, not able to adapt and just unwillingly to engage with ICTs is more of a factor in the grey digital divide, than just mere age.
The grey digital divide’s most obvious and blatant impact on older adults, is in the work force. Companies are eager to have technological innovations in their business and tap into the next big thing. This eagerness often neglects the needs of older workers who might require additional training and learning opportunities.
But because of the stereotypes being held against older individuals, companies tend to opt to hiring new younger employees who have grown up using ICTs. This just leads to older individuals feeling disinterested and dissatisfied in their place of work, this ultimately allows for older adults to be pushed out the workforce.
